THE STORY
Star Residences, one of the signature developments by Star Development, is located on Jalan Yap Kwan Seng in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s city center. Situated next to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the project enjoys one of the city’s most prestigious addresses. Its prime location is comparable to the leading central business districts of Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, making it a prominent mixed-use development that combines residential, retail, dining, and entertainment spaces.
With a total development value of RM3 billion, Star Residences consists of five blocks dedicated to retail, dining, and entertainment, along with three luxury residential towers. The 58-storey RT1 and RT2 towers offer high-end residential living, while the 57-storey RT3 tower is home to Ascott Star KLCC, a five-star serviced residence operated by Ascott.
Designed with a strong emphasis on fashion and artistic expression, the project draws inspiration from stars and the beauty of the night sky. The architecture reflects a modern and sophisticated lifestyle, creating a living environment that meets the expectations of an international capital city. Glass curtain walls, metallic finishes, and textured colored surfaces are carefully combined to highlight a theme of luxury and urban elegance, giving the towers the appearance of magnificent crystal sculptures on the Kuala Lumpur skyline.
CREATION AND AWARDS
Installed at the highest levels of the three residential towers, the mosaic mural series consists of three themed artworks: RT1 – Polar Bears in the Ocean, RT2 – Enchanted Creatures Among Dancing Butterflies, and RT3 – Ocean Hippo and Bird Flocks. The entire concept and design were created by Mr. Alan Koh, CEO of Alpine Return Sdn Bhd, inspired by nature, mythology, and environmental conservation.
Together, the three murals measure 57.90 meters in total length and 35.95 meters in total height, and are installed at an elevation of +250 meters above sea level. The mosaic artwork on RT1 Tower is the largest mosaic mural in Malaysia’s history, measuring 21,300 (W) × 12,050 (L) mm, and has been officially recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records.
Alan Koh, CEO of Alpine Return Sdn Bhd, explained that the project’s location sets Star Residences apart as a landmark within the KLCC district.
He noted that the design needed to go further by creating a timeless visual narrative that reflects the project’s sense of luxury, elevation, and height.
To achieve this, mosaic mural art was chosen as the key medium, using a bold palette of platinum, gold, white, and black mosaics to evoke the grandeur of Roman wall art while maintaining a modern and striking visual impact.
He added that these monumental mosaic murals are the first of their kind in both the area and Malaysia, serving as a cultural gift to local residents, guests, and visitors to Kuala Lumpur.

30+ mosaic materials were selected and calibrated to achieve seamless colour transitions and visual depth.
Precision at 250 Metres Above Ground
Every mosaic piece was refined by hand to ensure visual harmony at an installation height of 250 metres.
The Dynamic Composition of the Swirling Fish School
The RT1 fish formation required the most intensive calibration, creating striking movement across the facade.
