Design Concept
A masterpiece, translated into movement
The project explores the relationship between classical art and contemporary spatial design.
Rather than simply reproducing the painting, the mosaic composition translates Van Gogh’s emotional brushwork into architectural scale, allowing the artwork to interact with light, water, and movement in a completely new way.
The swirling sky, flowing stars, and layered blue tones create a dreamlike visual rhythm beneath the water surface, transforming the pool into an immersive artistic environment rather than a conventional recreational space.
Through the integration of mosaic craftsmanship and spatial design, the project brings fine art into everyday architectural experience.
Mosaic Craftsmanship
Painterly motion,made tactile
To faithfully reinterpret the texture and movement of Starry Night, the project utilized customized mosaic compositions with carefully calibrated tonal transitions and flowing geometric arrangements.
The reflective quality of the mosaic surface enhances the interaction between water and light, allowing the artwork to continuously shift throughout the day.
Under natural lighting, the pool reveals subtle gradients and luminous depth, while evening reflections create a more atmospheric and cinematic experience.
Each mosaic unit contributes to the continuity of the overall composition, translating painterly motion into a tactile architectural surface.
Spatial Experience
More than an amenity
The swimming pool was envisioned as more than a functional amenity space — it was designed as an artistic centerpiece within the clubhouse environment.
As visitors move through the space, the mosaic artwork unfolds gradually through changing perspectives, reflections, and water movement.
The combination of immersive scale, artistic imagery, and material texture creates an experience that feels calm, contemplative, and visually captivating.
By merging iconic artistic inspiration with contemporary mosaic craftsmanship, the project demonstrates how mosaic can redefine the emotional atmosphere of modern leisure spaces.
Design Narrative
Mosaic as a living surface
For the Tianyao Xu Clubhouse Pool project, JNJMosaic approached mosaic not merely as a finishing material, but as a medium capable of translating fine art into spatial experience.
Through layered blue tones, flowing compositions, and handcrafted detailing, Starry Night is transformed from a canvas into an architectural landscape shaped by light and water.
The result is a pool space where art becomes immersive, movement becomes part of the composition, and mosaic becomes a living surface within contemporary architecture.
