Located in the core district of Hangzhou’s Qiantang River economic zone, Starry City is a mixed-use urban complex designed around youth culture, social interaction, and lifestyle aesthetics.
As one of the city’s trend-focused destinations, the project brings together contemporary retail, creative experiences, and emerging lifestyle brands — creating a vibrant environment that connects architecture with modern urban culture.
At the center of this elevated lifestyle experience is the rooftop infinity pool, TWINKLE POOL, envisioned as a floating urban retreat above the city.
Spatial Experience
Floating Above the Skyline
Positioned high above the urban landscape, the infinity pool creates a seamless visual connection between water, sky, and city horizon.
During the day, sunlight reflects across the translucent mosaic surface, turning the pool into a luminous jewel suspended in the sky.
The endless visual edge allows visitors to experience openness and freedom while overlooking the panoramic cityscape below.
As evening falls, the atmosphere transforms completely.
Reflections of sunset tones merge with the blue-and-white mosaic compositions, while illuminated lettering and integrated lighting effects create a dreamlike spatial mood.
The flowing water surface visually dissolves into the skyline, creating the sensation of drifting through clouds above the city.
With a 270-degree panoramic view overlooking Qianjiang New City and the Qiantang River, the pool becomes both an architectural highlight and a contemporary social landmark.

The mosaic artwork Jumping Characters was created to express the youthful energy and vibrant identity of Starry City.
Different shades of blue and green mosaics are combined through mixed-scale compositions, forming layered gradients that resemble shimmering seawater by day and scattered starlight by night.
Across the flowing mosaic background, abstract letterforms appear rhythmically throughout the pool surface.
The playful arrangement of typography introduces movement, visual rhythm, and a contemporary graphic aesthetic into the architectural environment.
The result is a spatial composition filled with energy, interaction, and modern urban character.
Design Narrative
For the Starry City rooftop infinity pool, JNJMosaic explored how mosaic could become part of a new-generation lifestyle experience.
