THE STORY
Hidden within Fenglong Bay Fairy Tale Town in Kunming, The Cloud Art Palace emerges like a floating cloud among the mountains — dreamlike, surreal, and filled with artistic imagination.
Designed by artist Yang Han, the architectural space combines immersive art, maze-like circulation, and expressive color compositions to create a whimsical experience inspired by fantasy worlds and natural landscapes.
Inside the project, every artistic zone is connected through vibrant mosaic corridors that guide visitors through shifting colors, textures, and spatial rhythms, transforming movement itself into part of the artistic journey.
Design Inspiration
The design of the outdoor artistic corridors draws inspiration from the iconic red earth landscapes of Yunnan.
Rather than replicating nature literally, the project translates the rich textures, layered colors, and organic rhythms of Yunnan’s red soil into abstract mosaic compositions across the ground surface.
Flowing lines, irregular forms, and evolving color gradients create a sense of movement throughout the corridors, allowing the landscape itself to become an immersive artistic canvas.
As visitors walk through the space, the mosaic flooring continuously changes in tone and texture, echoing the feeling of wandering through mountains, clouds, and earth-colored landscapes.
Under ambient lighting, the layered textures and material details reveal rich visual depth, enhancing the artistic and immersive atmosphere of the restaurant.
Customized Mosaic Development
To faithfully capture the richness of Yunnan’s natural red soil, JNJmosaic specially developed and fired customized glass mosaic colors exclusively for the project.
Through extensive color experimentation and material research, the mosaic surfaces reproduce the warm, saturated, and earthy tonal qualities unique to the region’s landscape.
The handcrafted variations in texture and reflection allow the flooring to reveal different visual expressions under natural sunlight, rain, and shifting outdoor conditions.
